Ok, so now that you have tunes to listen to while you read my tale of the weekend, let’s get started. While i was at work last Thursday I got a phone call from my dad letting me know that my uncle had passed away the night before. He’d been fighting kidney cancer for about two years. My dad had already sprung into action looking at flight information and getting itineraries ready for our trip out there. I informed my boss(es) and told them I’d be gone all of the following week since we weren’t entirely sure exactly what dates were set for the wake and the funeral.

Friday night I went out with some friends and I ended up drinking a bit too much, I had to stay the night there at the house. I awoke the next morning with intense hangover pains. I drove home and went back to sleep. Later that night i went over to my parents place, since we were leaving early Sunday morning for our flight out to OK.

Sunday morning came a little too early We all made sure we had all our stuff packed and then headed to the airport. Everything went pretty much without a hitch except for when Nick tried to bring his half-gallon of lotion through security.. they didn’t like that too much (I wonder why?.. Baka). We get to Houston and wait for our next flight, and then we were off to Oklahoma City. The flights were routine and nothing major happened. Once we landed in OKC, we got the rental and hit the road. I pretty much stayed plugged into my iPod the whole time. We met up with everyone at Anita and Frank’s house and we met a bunch of the other side of the family. Mike was my Aunt Lisa’s husband, so there was a whole other side of the family i’d never met. All of them were very nice people. Mark, Syndey, Nick, Danny, Emma, and I ended up racing around the yard on a Gator and Golf Cart throwing water balloons at each other for a while, until they were confiscated from us.

Monday night was the wake. Everyone attended and many tears were shed. It was surreal seeing someone who’d just been alive a few days earlier laying in a casket, and being the prankster Mike was you almost expected him to pop up and say, “just kidding guys”! That didn’t happen though. Afterwards we all headed back to Frank and Anita’s and ate. Everyone was sharing stories and laughing at the memories.

Tuesday was the funeral. We all met up at the funeral home and then convoyed to the cemetary. There must have been close to 100 people there! Family, childhood friends, former co-workers, current co-workers, all came and paid their respects. I saw cousins I hadn’t seen in years there. It was good to see them, too bad it was under such curcumstances.

We made our trip back on Wednesday. The drive seemed longer than the one down. Things were fine except for the layover in Houston, it was longer than on the way down, almost 2 hours! I almost finished my book on the flight if it hadn’t been for another passanger that kept distracting everyone. Nick and I surmised that she was either totally drunk, or on pills. As soon as we landed we headed to the baggage claim and got our gear and drove home. I left the house pretty much as soon as we got there. Once i got to my house I talked to Sean for a bit and then hit the sack.

Today, I’ve been unpacking, catching up on all things online, and planning what i have to do over the weekend so i’m ready for next week. I don’t even want to think about what happened at work this week. I’m sure there was some sort of drama going on.

I bought tickets for Death Cab for Cutie this weekend. I haven’t seen them live in quite a while and i’m stoked! It’s gonna be good music, good people, and booze. Really, what more can you ask for? The show will be at the Louisville Palace, which is supposed to be a nice venue. I’ve never been there, i don’t think. The last time I saw them play it was at the Brown (Browne?) Theater, and that was very nice It was built in the early 1900’s and supposedly there were still secret passages that were used by bootleggers in the ’20s. I love places with actual real history.

I’ve also been looking at getting new wheels for my car. Currently i have some crappy snow tires on, which were put on to try and protect my current wheels from the dangers of Kentucky roads during the winter. But lately i’ve been thinking of just plain replacing my rims with something new and not as worn and damaged; the rims that came on the car aren’t bad but do have some damage and the chrome is missing in some spots.

The new wheels i’m looking at are black 18″x8.5″ in the front and 18″x9.5″ in the rear.
You can see them here. I’m going to save up a few more paychecks before i get them, since I have to make sure that I can still pay the rent, car payment, cell phone, interwebs, etc etc. For just the wheels with no tires it’s going to run me about 1000 dollars. I think it’ll be worth it though, Silver car with black rims and dark tint.. *drooool*

*a wee edit*
I’m bored again at work. I figured I’d talk about some of the stuff i bought this weekend. I got 3 albums.
The lastest Cut Copy.
The new Pierce The Veil.
And the latest Digitalism.

I’m really digging Cut Copy. It’s got a bit of an 80’s feel to it, like a mix of the Cure and electro. Pierce The Veil isn’t bad, a bit on the cookie cutter side of things. I’ve been trying to find their cover of MJ’s Beat It, but it’s turning into a difficult find. Digitalism is pretty good, a bit lacking in vocals, so it’s not as good as, say The Presets.

And now back to work

I’ve been slacking on getting any new music lately. I’ve been listening to the same armful of albums which are in the same small group of genres – ranging from Metal to Hiphop to Electronic. Today this changed – I’m not totally sure why. I went browsing Last.FM, and found some artists that seem to interest me. One of them being Elliott Smith. A friend of mine has been listening to him for quite a long time and had even recommended him, but i never got around to listening to him. His stuff is pretty mellow, which reminded me that i hadn’t listened to any of my mellow stuff in a long time. Probably because it always made me think of someone, who i now don’t really want to think about anymore. I quickly threw together a playlist and got to listening again. Man! So relaxing! It still brings back memories of times passed, but they don’t hurt anymore. I can finally relax and listen to my favorite mellow bands again! \o/

Elliott Smith – Somebody I used to know

Lyrics:

I had tender feelings that you made hard
But it’s your heart, not mine, that’s scarred
So when I go home I’ll be happy to go
You’re just somebody that I used to know
You don’t need my help anymore
It’s all now to you, there ain’t no before
Now that you’re big enough to run your own show
You’re just somebody that I used to know
I watched you deal in a dying day
And throw a living past away
So you can be sure that you’re in control
You’re just somebody that I used to know
I know you don’t think you did me wrong
And I can’t stay this mad for long
Keeping ahold of what you just let go
You’re just somebody that I used to know

Here are a few songs that i uploaded that i’ve been listening to a lot. To change songs, click on the numbers that are at the top of the player.

Big Poppa Lyrics:
To all the ladies in the place with style and grace
Allow me to lace lyrical duches in your bushes
Who rock grooves and make moves with all the moms?
The back of the club, sippin Moet, is where you’ll find me
The back of the club, mackin hoes, my crew’s behind me
Mad question askin, blunt passion, music blastin
But I just can’t quit
Because one of these honies Biggie gots ta creep with
Sleep with, keep the ep a secret
Why blow up my spot cause we both got hot
I got more Mack than Craig and in the bed
Believe me sweety I got enough to feed the needy
No need to be greedy I got mad friends with Benz’s
C-notes by the layers, true fuckin players
Jump in the Rover and come over
I got chronic I got chronic I-I-I-I-I-I got the chronic

(I love it when you call me Big Pop-pa)
Throw your hands in the air, if you are a true player
(I love it when you call me Big Pop-pa)
To all the honies gettin money playin niggaz like dummies (ooh)
(I love it when you call me Big Pop-pa)
If you got a gun up in your waist please don’t shoot up the place (Why?)
Cause I see some ladies tonight (uh uh)
Cause I see some ladies tonight (uh uh)
Cause I see some ladies tonight who should be havin my baby
Baybeh

(Straight up honey really I’m askin
Most of these niggaz think that they be mackin
But they’re just mother-fucking actin)
Who they attractin with that line, “What’s your name, what’s your sign”?
Soon as he buy that wine I just creep up from behind
And ask you what your interests are, and “who you be with”?
Things to make you smile, what number to dial
You gon’ be here for a while, I’m gon’ go call my crew
You go call your crew
We can rendezvous at the bar around two
Plans to leave, throw the keys to Lil Cease
Pull the truck up, front, and ROLL UP THE NEXT BLUNT
Conversate for a few, cause in a few, we gon’ do
What we came to do, ain’t that right boo (truuuueee)
Forget the telly we just go to my crib
and watch a movie in jacuzzi smokin big L’s while you do me

(I love it when you call me Big Pop-pa)
Throw your hands in the air, if you are a true player
(I love it when you call me Big Pop-pa)
To all the honies gettin money playin niggaz like dummies (ooh)
(I love it when you call me Big Pop-pa)
If you got a gun up in your waist please don’t shoot up the place (Why?)
Cause I see some ladies tonight (uh uh)
Cause I see some ladies tonight (uh uh)
Cause I see some ladies tonight who should be havin my baby
Baybeh

(How ya livin Biggie Smallz?) In mansion and Benz’s
Is givin ends to my friends and it feels stupendous
Tremendous cream, fuck a dollar and a dream
A still tote gats strapped with infrared beams
Choppin o’s, smokin lye an’ Optimo’s
Money hoes and clothes all a nigga knows
A foolish pleasure, whatever
I had to find the buried treasure, so-so-so-so-so-so grams I had to measure
Living better now, Gucci sweater now
Drop top BM’s I’m the man girlfriend
Living better now, Gucci sweater now
Drop top BM’s, DROP TOP BM’S
(Oh honey, Check it, Tell your friends, to get with MY friends
And we can BE friends
We can do this every god damn weekend…keep bangin)

(I love it when you call me Big Pop-pa)
Throw your hands in the air, if you are a true player
(I love it when you call me Big Pop-pa)
To all the honies gettin money playin niggaz like dummies
(I love it when you call me Big Pop-pa)
Baybeh

Cook It Up Lyrics:
Cook it up
Spooky
Salute
Look
Zoop, well hook it up
Shoop the local Wendy Cooper loopy
Low brow, low brim
She asked me, “What’s the name?”
I flashed the grossest fangs in show biz
Jumped out where it’s open:
“What’s yours?”
“Um, Jenny, um…”
5 o’clock with the ten-penny sum
Sprung colassal miss, may I process your Pentium?
But ae is hesitating
“My princess
The pigeon holing roles that your predecessor’s lunacy in the kismet”
Her eyes googled back “?that wanna fortune to? breed plus a new kink in the posture
“Just don’t get all barnacley
Get P.T. Barnumed in 3D THX sound stereo dismissal
Sorry hun, it’s just the last ?group? was a fistful
Like them girls you bump into like dumb luck
get high in the city kiss once when she’s punch drunk
Watch her misinterpret the moment tongues touch
Crazy mc-clingalot claim instant one love
And you’ve gotta beg your friends to take ‘em off your hands like thumbcuffs
Or them barbies you’ll vibe for a sexy second (love you)
Give ‘em a month Hyde Hekyl to Jekyl and she makes Hitler look cuddly
But Jenny in the sky with emerald eyes
You’re so different so delicious so ?de fish?
I’d be willing to walk the limb with
So let’s just get a few things out the way: (okay)
I’m clinically bonkers and just about everyone god’s great earth offers
I won’t be getting dressed up to impress your family dear
And if I can’t wear jeans and sneakers then I won’t be lamping there
Nope, aggro-pimp, sinfully, clinically ?novel,? back it up no-diggity soldier
Magic-touch fingertip donor
Own up to your dirty debutant animalistic instincts
ritual courting dance and breeding behaviour” (like what?)
“I dream of Jeannie and fucking her obsecenly
But Jeannie could be Jenny so easily if you’d let me
Hell, the bad-tac daddy-o Merlin– ‘e’ for effort
Most of these high-post Fabio world motherfucks make my head hurt
Dead up– I got death in the skull but you’ll get used to it ma
Dinner and cinema, yes, just cough the bread up
Sure, he schleps with naked pockets but I carry dreams
Like I wanna be an anstronaut after you marry me”
(WHAAAAT???)
“You’re rushing this I feel smothered it’s crowding me awfully, dolly
I love you, Get the fuck off me! Sorry.” (Call me)
And I’m circling her like a tiger shark frenzied but friendly
“I’m cool, how you feeling Jenny?” (Jenny) Jenny (Jenny) Jenny
“So quiet, oh I like that, so mysterious, I dig it
The way you haven’t made eye contact with me once in ten minutes
I’m just saying girl, I’m dirty-dog raw vintage mixed with mega-low society
Mister gutter-fuck etiquette if you try me
So there it is, game. I mean it’s not like I’m sweating you
because when it comes down to it, most of y’all females are the same
But now it’s your turn baby, spit it out”
“Okay” She punched me dead in the fuckin mouth and walked away

Watch out ladies cause you know he don’t love ya
Bazookatooth is one bad motherfucker
He’s a low life pimp with a low life game
He needs a no life dame with a strobe light frame

Cook it up now..

No ring on the finger
There ain’t no strings attached
But if you love television and
manic depression
Get a carton of cigarettes
And we can make it happen
Get your mac in
Just leave your bag up on my curb with the trashcan
?Pretend? like I seen you in maxim
?Relax with the tap dance?
Lights, camera, action

cook it up now..

Alcohol:
Alcohol, my permanent accessory
Alcohol, a party-time necessity
Alchool, alternative to feeling like yourself
O alcohol, I still drink to your health

I love you more than I did the week before
I discovered alcohol

Forget the caffe latte, screw the raspberry iced tea
A malibu and coke for you, a g&t for me
Alcohol, your songs resolve like
My life never will
When someone else is picking up the bill

I love you more than I did the week before
I discovered alcohol
O alcohol, would you please forgive me?
For while I cannot love myself
Ill use something else

I thought that alcohol was just for those with
Nothing else to do
I thought that drinking just to get drunk
Was a waste of precious booze
But now I know that theres a time
And theres a place where I can choose
To walk the fine line between
Self-control and self-abuse

I love you more than I did the week before
I discovered alcohol
Would you please ignore that you
Found me on the floor
Trying on your camisole?
O alcohol, would you please forgive me?
For while I cannot love myself
Ill use something else.

Would you please forgive me
Would you please forgive me
