I’m not a dad, oh no sir. But my dad is

Let’s start back on Friday. I really didn’t do much, mainly read, nap, play video games, mow the lawn, drink beers. Speaking of the lawn.. a few days earlier we’d put down some weed killer and it seems to be working. Now all that needs to be done is get the lawn feed out and get that grass back to being the dominant plant in the yard. I’m serious, half the lawn is brown with dead weeds atm! Anyway, back to the weekend.. I got a call from Michelle! It was the first day they were allowed to use the phone, so that was pretty exciting Friday night i went out with some friends. First we went to BW3′s for dinner, which was delish and then to some bar in Louisville, The Electric Cowboy or some such. It was ‘eh’.. Not really my scene. Lots of cowboy hats and older people and yeah well you should get the picture. I left pretty early, it was only midnight i think, and went home.

Saturday we had our weekly SoNotSoft meeting. We talked about what kind of moves we want in our game and tried really hard to come up with a lengthly list. There’s only so much you can do with a pencil i guess. After the meeting Josh came over and we played Counter-Strike, we both suck horribly and soon decided that food was more important than video games. We ended up going to Kanzai in E-town. Man i love sushi! The Thai Chilli Roll was exquisit! I was invited to go to a River Bats game with Sarah, but to be honest I didn’t feel like driving all the way back up to Louisville. So I went back home and played some video games and took a nap.

Sunday I was up early and hit Walmart first thing. I’d heard that ammunition supplies were low (besides every gun owner always saying ammo is low). It was true, there were only 4 boxes of .40 S&W left. I bought three of them. I got back to the house and got out my pistol and made sure that it was clean and not covered in rust My dad came over around 12:30 and showed me his new rifle. A sweet M1903. We headed out and got to Knob Creek Gun Range around 1. I fired a few magazines of ammo through my pistol (Springfield XD-40) and then tried my dad’s new rifle. Man does that thing kick! After only 5 rounds my shoulder was pretty beaten up.. After i found out later because i wasn’t holding it quite right So now i have a nicely bruised shoulder. After we’d finished we went back to my place to clean our weapons and eat some food. Sean started up the grill and put burgers on. Things took too long i guess, so dad left, since he still had to go take the dogs on a walk. And then Kristina came over and kidnapped Sean for dinner. So i was there with a grill full of burgers. There’s no way i could eat them all Instead i played some Eve. We were trying to run some wormhole plexes.. we didn’t do too well. Apoll0s lost his domi and Scab lost his apoc. I got a bit frustrated and logged pretty much right after that. I went back to reading a new book (Relentless) for a few hours before i went to bed.

Now it’s back to work for a few days before the next weekend, which will be pretty busy too. Family is coming in starting on Thursday for the family reunion my dad is hosting this year. Saturday we get a tour of the Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown.

As you all know (or i hope you do), a few friends of mine have come together to join forces in the epic battle against bad video games. We’ve formed So!Soft LLC (So-Not-Soft), an independant game studio and have been working with the XNA framework to make games. Actually, lets rephrase that. So far Zach’s been doing all the programming, I’ve been handling most of the web stuff (admining our website, setting up our twitter, and working on a side project for the Frank’s Paintball Team).

So, yeah, the website is getting really close to being done. I hope they like it. I spend quite a lot of time getting the functionality to work, and Zach put in a bunch of time on the CSS (which looks amazing imo).

I’ll let you all know when the site is finished and finalized!

So, i’ve been building a website for this Paintball team. They seem to do pretty well in tournaments and from what I’ve been told they already have possible sponsors lining up. They want their site ready as soon as possible, but at the same time I don’t want to give them garbage. I want to be able to give them quality software. It’s hard to do sometimes when I’m not even getting paid for it. The deal is we make them a website, and we get free advertising through them, kind of like a sponsorship. But AJAX is being a pain, so it’s easier to just go play eve instead of working..

Maybe i’ll go do that now..

I got the log in system working, so i might as well take a break.. my brain hurts

Just finished my first whole weekend at the new place. It’s starting to really feel like home the more i use things and put things in their proper place (like clothes in my dresser instead of in the hamper).

Friday night was Halloween. Zach made me a zombie, his makeup job was awesome! I’ve posted pictures across pretty much every networking site i’m part of, as well as flickr. That night Sean also moved some more of his stuff into the house before I left for the Halloween Party i’d been invited to. Good times had by all i must say. I came home, went to sleep and woke up bright and early the next day for our first So Not Soft meeting.

[Edit]: So Not Soft has also opened it’s bank account. Meaning we don’t have to tie any costs to our personal monies!! YES! [/EDIt]

At our meeting we covered a lot of things dealing with our new game (which i’m not going to go into detail here). Next thing i’m going to have to do is get XNA 3.0 installed on my machine. I kinda forgot on saturday (sorry, zach ). I’ll see what sean and i can get going this week.

Now i’m back at work, bored like usual. Sucks when you automate pretty much everything.

So, you’re looking at the blog of the co-founder and part owner of SoNotSoft LLC. The big day started today as Zach got us registered early this morning. Since then we’ve been doing all sorts of things. Everything from planning what steps we need to take next (like get all our financial and legal things squared away) to what projects we’re going to undertake next (after the games we have planned) to how our website is going to look.

So far i’ve just been working on getting the website set up and running. I’m in the process of installing a wordpress blog for our dev blog, and comtemplating on using e107 for the news, forums, downloads section. I’ve also been thinking about building the whole sha-bang from scratch, but that’s pretty time consuming and i’m sure we’d rather have a prefab site up now, than a custom one three months from now. We can always customize as we go.

So, first thing for me, once everything is installed, is to get the rss_reader on there and ready for download Then from there i’ll start working on other stuff.

That’s all i got for now.
